Tamil Nadu Can Be India’s Solar Superpower — But Here’s Why We’re Missing Out

Tamil Nadu has the highest solar potential in India, with more than 300 sunny days every year. From rural farmlands to bustling cities like Chennai and Coimbatore, there’s an abundance of unused rooftops and open land that could be generating solar power. However, due to lack of awareness, policy confusion, and limited last-mile execution, much of this potential remains untapped.

While the government has launched beneficial schemes like the PM Surya Ghar Yojana and Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) initiatives, many homeowners and small businesses are still unaware of how to access these subsidies or calculate long-term benefits. Without clear guidance and trustworthy installation partners, people hesitate to invest in solar systems.

With the rising cost of electricity and growing climate concerns, solar energy is no longer just an option  it’s a necessity. If Tamil Nadu adopts solar in both urban and rural areas, we could reduce power cuts, lower electricity bills for lakhs of households, and even supply surplus energy to the grid. The time to act is now.
